2015’ BH Score: 93-95 /Tasted: Apr 15, 2017 /Drink: 2032+ /Issue: 66
Note: from a .77 ha parcel in the climat Combe d’Orveau, which is also a monopole of the domaine; 20% whole clusters
Tasting note: An ultra-spicy and pure nose offers up notes of black raspberry, sandalwood and in the same fashion as the Ech, Asian-style exotic tea scents. There is a highly polished mouth feel to the impressively dense, serious and muscular flavors that exhibit plenty of minerality on the exceptionally firm finale where a hint of mocha appears. This beauty appears to have everything that it needs for a very long life. I would observe that the Prieur Musigny is often quite fine and sophisticated yet the 2015 version is not cut from that cloth; rather it is big, bold and robust and as I noted, is going to need time.
2013’ BH Score: 93-95 /Tasted: Apr 15, 2015 /Drink: 2028+ /Issue: 58 / Don’t miss!
Note: from a .77 ha parcel in the climat Combe d’Orveau, which is also a monopole of the domaine
Tasting note: The breezy nose is also overtly spicy with markedly ripe yet fresh aromas of plum liqueur, cassis and Asian-style tea nuances. There is outstanding concentration to the powerful yet polished and sleek broad-shouldered and mineral-inflected flavors that are at once muscular and refined while delivering positively terrific depth and length. I very much like the balance and this stunner of a wine should also reward longer-term cellaring.
2012’ BH Score: 92-95 / Tasted: Apr 15, 2014 / Drink: 2027+ / Issue: 54 / ♥ Don’t miss!
Note: from a .77 ha parcel in the climat Combe d’Orveau, which is also a monopole of the domaine
Tasting note: Strong reduction completely dominates the nose. By contrast there is good freshness and verve to the appealingly mineral-driven large-scaled flavors that are solidly well-concentrated which helps to buffer the very firm tannins on the long, austere and reasonably well-balanced finish. This is a bit awkward today but everything seems to be in place to allow for extended aging and unlike some of the wines in the range that will be accessible young, this isn’t one of them. |
