2013’ BH Score: 91-93/Tasted: Jun 15, 2015/Drink: 2023+/Issue: 59/ ♥Outstanding
Note: from 3 separate parcels spread out over the entire vineyard
Tasting note: This too is gorgeously pure with its airy, cool and complex nose that is composed by notes of white flower and freshly cut citrus fruit that are trimmed in just a hint of pain grillé. The highly energetic and intensely mineral-inflected middle weight flavors possess good richness but also terrific delineation on the firm finish that is dry, long and moderately austere.
2014’ BH Score: 92 / Tasted: Jun 15, 2016 / Drink: 2021+ / Issue: 63 / ♥ Outstanding
Note: from Peux Bois
Tasting note: This too is very firmly reduced. The racy, intense and more overtly mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a taut muscularity along with a saline character that surfaces on the beautifully textured and lingering finale. This isn’t as refined as the Pucelles but it delivers more minerality. In sum while these two wines are qualitative equals they offer two markedly different expressions.
2015’ BH Score: 91-93 /Tasted: Jun 11, 2017 /Drink: 2023+ /Issue: 67 / ♥Outstanding
Note: from 3 separate parcels spread out over the entire vineyard
Tasting note: A riper but still quite fresh nose displays notes of white peach, floral, citrus and a whiff of the exotic. Yet again there is excellent volume to the sappy mouth coating flavors that also exude evident minerality on the lingering and well-balanced finish that isn’t quite as firm or complex. Still this is certainly promising and should reward mid-term cellaring.
2017’ BH Score: 90-93/ Tasted: Jun 10, 2019 /Drink: 2027+ /Issue: 75
Note: from 3 separate parcels
Tasting note: There is a whiff of the exotic present on the smoky reduction and floral-scented nose. The bigger but not necessarily finer middle weight flavors possess good minerality that carries over to the borderline rustic if more tightly wound finish. This is certainly very good but it’s rare when the Clavoillon is finer than the Folatières, at least today!
