Tasting Note: I’ve tasted many vintages of the Brunels’ wines, and 2016 looks as if it will be their best ever. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape stood out in my blind tasting, offering incredible complexity and lightness despite being full-bodied. Roses, garrigue and dried spices accent raspberries and cherries in a wine that’s concentrated and intense yet agile, with nuances galore. It’s 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% Cinsault and will have aged 18 months (mainly in concrete) prior to bottling. Let’s hope this looks just as good then.

Les Cailloux酒莊的名字來自於法語,意為“教皇新堡的大石頭”。Andre Brunel與其妻子Lucien Brunel是酒莊的第三代傳人。
目前,Les Cailloux擁有大約91公頃的葡萄種植園,所有的釀酒葡萄也均通過手工方式採摘。
Les Cailloux共有三款酒產自Chateauneuf du Pape,分別是Les Cailloux red、Les Cailloux Blanc和Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire。
Les Cailloux red由Grenache、Mourvedre、Syrah以及少量其他葡萄品種調配而成。所有葡萄來自于樹齡高達60歲左右的葡萄。Grenache是在搪瓷罐中成熟,而Syrah與Mourvedre則在小橡木桶中發酵,這段時間大概要持續1-3年不等。有的酒成熟得較早,有的卻要窖藏10年甚至更長時間。
Cuvee Centenaire為酒莊頂級酒款,平均樹齡在100歲左右Grenache老藤葡萄釀造,並混合Mourvedre與Syrah。每年混合比例根據葡萄品質而定,此款特釀自1989年出產以來,只在極佳年份才出產,年產大概6000瓶。

Tasting Note; There are 10,000 bottles of the stunning 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père, which is good news for lovers of 100% Grenache. Drawn from a single parcel in the lieu-dit of Gardiole (mostly sandy soils), half of the fruit was destemmed. It’s full-bodied and concentrated but silky and refined, with scintillating purity of cherry and raspberry fruit, backed by crisp acids and enlivening hints of orange zest on the long, reverberating finish. It’s a terrific value that should drink well for more than a decade.

Tasting Note; The all whole-bunch 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes is 85% Grenache, with the balance a mix of Mourvèdre and Syrah. The vines are all 80 to 90 years old, selected from parcels in Brusquières, Gardiole, Mont-Redon and Pignan. Glorious raspberry and cherry fruit picks up hints of mint and some stemmy notes, but they’re remarkably well-integrated and should be completely absorbed within a couple of years. Full-bodied, rich and creamy in texture, this tour de force remains lively, silky and long on the finish. With 1,000 cases produced, it should be reasonably priced and reasonably available—an increasingly rare combination in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Note; The final blend of the captivating 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes is 86% Grenache, with the balance equally split between Syrah and Mourvèdre. Delicate cherry and sandalwood perfumes rise from the glass, while the mid-palate delivers a full-bodied experience that seems almost weightless. The finish is long and silky, featuring a reprise of cherries and spice. It’s just a lovely, elegant wine.

Tasting Note; The old-vine cuvee dominated by Grenache is the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes. This has the deepest color of the three 2004s, a dark crimson, and offers up sweet garrigue notes intermixed with ground pepper, black cherry liqueur, and some raspberry and earth. It is rich, full-bodied, but again supple and silky, so drinking it during its first 8-10 years of life is recommended.
