Tasting Note; Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate features notes of cranberries, black raspberries and warm red currants with touches of garrigue, lavender and wild thyme. Medium-bodied with understated, chewy tannins and just enough freshness, it finishes with pleasant herb and toast flavors.

2011’ 92 Points - Stephen Tanzer:
"(30% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Captivating, high-pitched aromas of cassis, licorice pastille, bitter chocolate, violet, rose petal and mocha. Juicy and tightly wound, with fresh acidity energizing the middle palate but keeping the wine’s dark berry flavors restrained today. There’s a lightly peppery quality that gives away the vintage, but this highly aromatic wine is a big success for the year and very well made." - Stephen Tanzer (May 2014)

"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a pretty wine from Chateau Montelena. Expressive floral and savory notes add complexity to the dark, pliant fruit in a soft, open Cabernet that is already quite tasty. I expect the 2011 will drink well early, but then again, these wines can be deceptively age worthy. That said, there are no hard edges or vegetal notes at all. Montelena’s 2011 Estate impresses for its balance and overall sense of harmony." - Antonio Galloni (October 2014)

被稱為『永恆的蒙特麗娜-美國加州國寶酒』其Cabernet Sauvignon是加州翹楚之一。1982年,美國兩家酒雜誌進行了一項調查,採訪酒業專家,請他們為美國出產的Cabernet Sauvignon分級,以Medoc梅繹1855評級為藍本,把各酒莊按多年來的水準評一至五級 ( First Growths-Fifth Growths ),限定一級八家酒莊。位列一級的有大家熟悉、公認酒質佳的蒙大維 ( Mondavi )、鹿躍、Sterling、Beaulieau、Chappellet 、Montelena、Mayacamas 及 Heitz。

酒評( Robert Parker Jr. ) 連年給予Montelena極高的評價。
95年回顧加州酒時,Parker 曾寫道:
「今日回顧二十二年前 ( 1973年) 加州頂級的Cabernet Sauvignon酒莊,發覺當年很多名酒莊在今日已聲名不保,只有三家當年(1973年)Cabernet Sauvignon造得出色的,至今仍然保持極高水準,多年來質素未嘗稍退,它們是 Caymus Vineyard、Ridge 及Chateau Montelena。由於 Chateau Montelena 以加州的標準看屬於『老酒莊』,大家往往忽略了莊主占姆.佈雷特(Jim Barrett)及其子的超凡佳釀。Chateau Montelena的Cabernet Sauvignon從沒有一年是失手的,年份好的時候,它是首榜的名釀,在年份不好,人人都失手時,它仍可以釀出優美的Cabernet Sauvignon,所以,Montelena 垂直試飲會是城中最炙手可熱的盛會。」

Montelena 採用 10%~15% 的新橡木桶,在桶內醇化18~24個月之後,再在瓶中陳年18個月後才上市。

Tasting Note; "Handsome and sophisticated, the bold and black-fruited 2012 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon—served out of a 1.5-liter bottle (magnum)—is youthful and appealing. Showing a whole array of nuances that go beyond fruit—earth, dust, aromatic cocoa beans, and sweet oak—this appears to be one of the vintage’s top wines. Drinks nicely now, although it will benefit from another decade in the bottle. (Tasted: October 3, 2016, San Francisco, CA USA) "

Tasting Note; "From bottle a solid 93. Surprisingly lush and charming for a young Montelena, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a deep ruby/purple color, with earthy, black cherry and blackcurrants. The wine has very ripe tannins, and is medium to full-bodied with outstanding purity and balance. Most Montelena estate Cabernets have traditionally required patience, but this one is set for drinking now and over the next 20 years."

Tasting Note; A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis (a barrel sample) is a deep garnet-purple color with a lovely nose of pure cassis and blackberries with earth and herbal notions plus violets and an exotic spice waft. Medium to full-bodied, taut and muscular in the expressive mouth, it has grainy tannins and a long finish.

生於1928年的酒廠創辦人Warren Winiarski先生,亦為Hawk Crest 鷹冠酒廠的創辦人,更曾擔任Robert Mondavi羅伯蒙岱維酒廠的土壤分析師。Warren Winiarski先生雖然就讀於芝加哥大學政治學系,但他本人卻一直對於釀酒有莫大的熱忱,正因如此也促使了他建立Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars鹿躍酒廠與Hawk Crest鷹冠酒廠。

Tasting Note; The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Malbec. Among the top wines, it’s the least expensive red in the Stag’s Leap portfolio. An elegant style of wine, with notes of cedar wood, black and red currants and spice box, this medium-bodied, delicious, complex and elegant wine could easily pass for a second- or third-growth Bordeaux in a blind tasting. It should drink nicely for another 10-15 years.

The 2015 ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon opens with inviting aromas of dark cherry and berry fruit, cassis, sweet vanilla and a hint of olive. On the palate, the wine has a smooth entry with a rich mouthfeel and lingering aftertaste of black cherry and dusty cocoa. Enjoy this Cabernet Sauvignon with Memphis-style dry rub pork or beef ribs, grilled tri-tip, or polenta with wild mushrooms, sage and prosciutto.
