2013’ BH Score: 92 /Tasted: Jan 15, 2016 /Drink: 2025+ / Issue: 61
Tasting note: More prominent but not invasive oak influence sits atop the very spicy, ripe and admirably fresh aromas that blend together notes of plum, black raspberry, anise, lilac and sandalwood. There is excellent richness and punch to the powerful and big-bodied flavors that possess plenty of muscle before concluding in a long, serious, mouth coating and robust
2014’ BH Score: 94 /Tasted: Jan 15, 2017 /Drink: 2029+ /Issue: 65
Tasting note: The wood treatment is evident but not dominant on the ultra-fresh aromas of plum, cassis, spice, tea and cinnamon. As is usually the case this is a powerful and impressively concentrated Ech with plenty of palate coating dry extract that helps to buffer the notably firm tannic spine shaping the robust but not rustic finale. This broad-shouldered and bold effort is going to require at least 7 to 8 years to be approachable and amply repay 15+. In two words, most impressive.
2015’ BH Score: 92-94 /Tasted: Jan 15, 2017 /Drink: 2027+ /Issue: 65/ ♥ Sweet spot
Tasting note: An exuberantly spicy nose displays notes of pepper, violet, sandalwood, plum and Asian-style tea. There is first-rate richness and concentration to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the sappy finale. As good as this appears to be, and it appears to be really good, the 2014 is likely to be even better. I would argue for buying both if you can find them!
2018’ BH Score: 91-93 /Tasted: Jan 10, 2020/Drink: 2030+/Issue: 77
Note: from <50 year old vines
Tasting note: A markedly spicy wide-ranging nose combines notes of red cherry, raspberry, plum liqueur and hints of Asian-style tea. The supple and round middle weight flavors aren’t especially dense though they do possess a seductive texture before culminating in a lightly stony, long and powerful finale where a touch of warmth gradually emerges. While this is certainly very good, it’s perhaps not quite at its usual very high level.
